The vocal interludes all have an intention and push the story on, plus they’re very interesting, especially with ‘The Neverending Elevator’ to hear some of the making of the album, the enthusiasm which Curtis exudes is really palpable here, making the listener in turn excited to hear the second part of ‘8bit Heart’. Curtis’ voice is fantastically diverse, reaching those really high notes to getting pretty low too, it would be fascinating to hear him singing some other genres, jazz for instance, to see just how far he can push his voice.

It’s rare these days that you need to listen to an album in order to get the full meaning, but with this one you do, which makes it just that little bit more lovely.
Whilst ‘Diablo’ is my stand out track, there are no bad tracks on here.What makes this album quite cool is that there is a story that goes throughout this album about the boy robot from the first to last track with a nice ending to it. The beat and the lyrics will be locked in your head for days and the story about getting over someone and telling them while you are- it’s just brilliant. The must listen, must have track here I would say is ‘Diablo’. This extensive review will go through his 2 solo albums plus remix album and the Wrathschild singles.Ĭurtis’ debut album is a gorgeous pop filled electronica story introducing the Boy Robot out to find love in the world of humanity. All of this has been independent, and you know what? It sounds a lot better than a lot of the stuff coming from the record labels.Ĭurtis has really built up his social media base and made a huge success for himself, hell, he’s showing off now by getting his book ‘Boy Robot’ published soon too. A remix album of his debut 8bit Heart has also been released as Super 8-Bit Heart in 2016. A collaboration has since happened to create a duo: Wrathschild, which have released two singles and an album. Half a million downloads later he released his second album RA which he charged for on iTunes and which debuted at number 20 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums Chart with only publicity on social media, hands-down incredible. He wanted a career in music so he made his own album and posted it online for free, forever: 8bit Heart. Simon Curtis aka the Boy Robot is someone whom, no matter what you may think of his music, you can’t help respecting for his sheer defiance of people saying no.
